SACSCOC Probation Updates

On June 14, 2018, Bethune-Cookman University was placed on Probation by the Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) following the review of the University’s Special Report response to third party unsolicited information from media sources alleging non-compliance with the standards related to the governing board, control of finances, external finances and CEO. Probation is a sanction placed by the regional accrediting agency to publicly signify that an accredited institution is non-compliant with one or more of standards of the SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation.

The SACSCOC Board determined that the University had failed to demonstrate compliance with Core Requirement 1.1 (Integrity), Core Requirement 4.1 (Governing board characteristics), Core Requirement 13.1 (Financial resources), Standard 13.3 (Financial responsibility) and Standard 13.4 (Control of finances) of the Principles of Accreditation. A public disclosure statement regarding B-CU’s probationary status was also placed on SACSCOC website.
