Online Degree Programs

While attending Bethune-Cookman University, students residing outside of the state of Florida who desire to resolve a grievance should first follow the University’s student grievance procedure. However, if a grievance cannot be resolved internally, students may file a grievance with their state. 

Undergraduate Programs

Bachelor of Science, Criminal Justice

The primary objective of the criminal justice program is to provide students with a curriculum that would qualify them to assume administrative, research and other professional positions in the criminal justice system. Courses offered in the program are designed to teach students how to develop and apply knowledge and critical thinking to current situations in our pluralistic society.

Bachelor of Arts in International Studies

The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on the study of social sciences, business, and the humanities at international levels. Mindful of the current level of globalization, this degree program prepares students for the demands of global politics, economics, and security, emphasizing the interactions of the different cultures, religions, and ethnicities. The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies includes courses in History, International Relations, Political Science, Economics and International Law among others. The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies is designed to prepare students for Graduate Studies in International Affairs, International Relations, Political Science, Diplomacy, Security Studies, Development Studies, International Business, and Economics. This program also prepares students for public service, especially for international agencies. The Study Abroad Program is not required but is strongly encouraged, and Bethune-Cookman University has an outstanding Study Abroad Program. A minor in International Studies is also offered.

Bachelor of Science Hospitality Management

The online Hospitality Management Degree Program is an extension of the on-campus academic experience, sharing the same policies, faculty, and student activities. It is grounded in day-to-day teaching and leadership practice and is geared at individuals who have a need for higher education, for those who struggle to maintain a work-life balance while holding full-time jobs or who because of the dictates of their lives are unable to attend classes as a full-time student. The online degree will enable individuals to apply what they learn, as they learn, work with peers facing similar challenges and take away real-world solutions, inspiration, and the support of an engaged community. The program promotes active, team-based learning that supports collaboration and sharing. The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management is designed to produce individuals solidly grounded in business administration, with specific sensitivities and skills in application to the administration of hotels, restaurants and travel/tourism management entities. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) 1993. To that end, the vertical curriculum is a replica of the face to face program.

Bachelor of Arts in Sociology

With a bachelor’s degree in sociology, students are prepared for employment in a wide range of entry-level positions in social services, community work, corrections, management, college settings, health services, public relations, government services, and teaching (in conjunction with appropriate teacher certification). For students who plan to further their education, a major in sociology prepares them for graduate studies in a wide array of programs, including but not limited to sociology, counseling, criminology, education, law, public health, rehabilitation, social research, and social work.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

The Bachelor of Science degree program in Psychology focuses on the scientific study of behavior as it is influenced by physical, cognitive, emotional, and environmental factors, and includes the analysis of behavior problems and disorders. This comprehensive program of study emphasizes instruction in the principles of the subfields of psychology which include developmental, abnormal, counseling, personality, measurement, and research methodology in psychology. Students complete a senior empirical research thesis which prepares them for success in graduate programs of their choice. Programs often include social work, public health, business, sports, law, human services, mental health counseling and psychiatric services. A required Field Experience in which they volunteer at local mental health agencies often gives students an advantage in obtaining entry-level employment with the agencies.

Bachelor of Science in Accounting

The Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting is a four-year program that provides an excellent foundation in accounting and business. Its conceptual focus is designed to prepare students for success in a constantly evolving business environment and to also prepare students for graduate studies. Today's global business environment brings new opportunities and challenges to the accounting profession. New business reporting models, international financial reporting standards, financial disclosure, corporate governance, fraud prevention, and government regulations are all shaping the future of the profession. Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies

Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies is an exciting and rigorously challenging interdisciplinary program that provides students with a unique opportunity to study and integrate concepts from the humanities and arts, the natural sciences, and the social sciences. This is an institution-wide degree leading to a Bachelor of Arts. This major explores the methods, underlying assumptions, and forms of interaction within and between these disciplines. The capacity for critical thinking, comprehensive academic background, and communications skills that our majors develop provide them with the self-confidence that comes from being culturally sensitive, intellectually independent, creative, and well-rounded persons.

Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management

The online Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management prepares students for managerial and technical careers in the field of information systems. The online Bachelors of Science in Information System Management Program is designed for students interested in pursuing a career as an information technology professional who can apply accepted standards and best practices to effectively plan, design, implement, and manage the various aspects of an organization. The program emphasizes the acquisition of sound theoretical concepts and research experience in the area of information systems. 

Graduate Programs

The Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration is designed to provide students with a well-rounded scholarly foundation tailored for administrative leadership within the variety of public and private criminal justice settings including the court system, law enforcement, and corrections.

Master of Arts degree in Christian Ministry

Master of Arts in Christian Ministry is a 2-year degree program open to all people with a Bachelor's degree in any discipline.  Candidates for the MA program should have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0-point scale (or equivalent).

The focus for MA in Christian Ministry program is to provide educational opportunities for both clergy and laity. The type of education that we offer will prepare our students for both pastoral work and enhance their practice in a variety of professions within and beyond the local church (e.g. church administration, chaplaincy, youth work, missions, evangelism, social work and more). The goals of the program are:

a)     To enhance the Christian mission to the world by providing theological training for ministers, pastors, Christian educators, and lay leaders who engage with day to day realities of the real world.

b)     To connect the School of Religion to local communities through dialogue, service, civic engagement, and educational opportunities to help lift our communities from poverty and despair.

Master of Education in Exceptional Student Education Program

The Master of Education in Exceptional Student Education Program is a 33 credit-hour, evidence-based online graduate program designed to prepare in-service teachers to serve students with disabilities in the Pre-K through 12 setting. The use of technology integration prepares graduates for a connected and global digital society. Graduate students will participate in a 2-year program during the fall, spring and summer semesters, selecting a specialization area of study in Pre-K Disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) prior to admission to the program.

The specialization tracks in this program reflect the State of Florida's endorsement courses in Pre-K Disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Master of Science in Organizational Leadership

If one thinks of those leaders who made a distinctive impact, who changed their organizations, communities and the world for the better, who were ethical and value-centered, who made informed data-driven decisions, who saw things no one else could see, who solved problems few might risk addressing who not only managed but transformed, then one might ask, can this be taught? Is there a place to acquire these skills? Is there a place where leadership is cultivated, and where the sheer effectiveness of a collaborative approach is honed, refined, and understood deeply so as to be applied to the most challenging situations one might face? The master's in Transformative Leadership Program is a rigorous four-semester on-line program that unreservedly shows that the answer is yes.

The Graduate Certificate Program will require the satisfactory completion of twenty-four (24) credit hours of graduate-level courses. To earn a certificate, students must complete eight (8) three-hour courses (See Course List).
