B-CU'S Petrock College of Health Sciences Partners With Halifax Health to Offer Free Sickle Cell Screenings
DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Petrock College of Health Sciences has serviced more than 30 people at its last two sickle cell screenings. The screenings are offered each month on Thursdays (second week of the month), 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.and Fridays (third week of the month) 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Odessa Chambliss Health Center. The screenings are free and open to the public. B-CU is offering these screenings in an effort to increase awareness of sickle cell and improve health care options for those at risk.
Research shows that more than 60% of Volusia County residents could be at risk of carrying the sickle cell gene. With the loss of the Volusia County Sickle Cell Association, there is a greater need for available sickle cell education and resources. The program at B-CU aims to reach the targeted population, as well as, explore available health care options for the community. The Petrock College of Health Sciences is placing emphasis on pediatric patients and their continued care. The college is also in the planning stages for relative summits and seminars.
