Jayson Douglas Earns Prestigious Internship, Study Abroad Opportunity

Jayson Douglas, a senior majoring in political science in the School of Liberal Arts, has been presented with two prestigious opportunities this year: a U.S. Department of State internship and an impressive study abroad program.

Douglas recently completed a 10-week internship with the Office of India Affairs in the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs working on the political, global affairs, and consular portfolio. He was sponsored by the American Foreign Service Association and Thursday Luncheon Group, who provided him a stipend to cover his expenses while in Washington. 

In August, Douglas embarked on an Atlantic exploration to more than 16 different countries in just 108 days through the Semester at Sea program. Semester at Sea is a study abroad program that is focused on the comparative study of societies and civilizations.

“I am excited to develop an international perspective that will facilitate an appreciation of the global economy and the interconnectedness of the different regions of the world,” Douglas said.

Douglas hopes to build cross-cultural connections and intercultural competencies in Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia. Because of his strong interest in human rights and international development, he has been invited to visit Geneva, Switzerland and attend the 25th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to further his study in human rights for marginalized communities.
